On March 12, two college students in St. John’s held a collection for a non-profit organization in the province as a part of their service-learning hours.

The two students from College of the North Atlantic, created a donation event for Single Parents Association of Newfoundland (SPAN). The association has helped provide daily needs for single parents since February 2014.

The students accepted non-perishable food items, books and toiletries for donation.

“We also had someone drop off some clothes,” said Alisha Noel, who founded the fundraiser. She is a first-year medical office management student at Prince Philip Drive campus.

She also said the association also accepts money donations, but her group limited their event to collecting only food items and toiletries.

The students collected several bags of food donations.”

“I’m happy that we helped people in need,” said Chinenye, another medical office management student at the same campus who also organized the donation.
