A Bay Bulls woman is using her artistic skills to help children and young athletes almost 5,000 kilometres away, as her work will be featured in one of Florida’s biggest fundraisers.

Susan Doyle’s artwork, titled “Aquatic Fantasy,” will be used by the Tequesta Brewing Company, based out of Tequesta, Florida, for an upcoming charity event dubbed the White Party at Club Meier in West Palm Beach.

Net proceeds from the White Party will benefit the Jack Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation, as well as the Jupiter Tequesta Athletic Association.

Doyle, a former Florida resident, says she leapt at the chance to use her art for the can.

“It was pretty exciting, ’cause I know that Fran [Andrewlevich] is one of the best brewers in Florida… A lot of what he does he gives back to the community. When he approached me with the idea, I was very nervous. Elated, but very nervous.”

Francis “Fran” Andrewlevich, owner of Tequesta Brewing Company and Twisted Trunk Brewery in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, said he is overjoyed with the design and how the cans turned out.

“How she nailed it [the Florida atmosphere] from up there is amazing,” said Andrewlevich. “That piece is totally where the party’s at. It’s coastal, which has green and turquoise, and there’s hints of it in her work. That’s what really drew me to it.”

The White Party at Club Meier is a special event in West Palm Beach, put off by local philanthropist Dr. Scott Meier. Now in its 10th year, the event is a well-received fundraiser in the city.  With the presence of Florida’s elite, such as doctors, athletes and other local celebrities, the fund-raising goal has been set at over $100,000 in aid of the Jack Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation and the Jupiter Tequesta Athletic Association.

Doyle is proud of the fact that her art is being put to use for such a worthy cause. As a former physical education teacher, she realizes the importance of lending a helping hand.

“It’s huge. I used to teach in Jupiter, in Florida. So obviously, being able to help out on the athletic side…and with the children’s hospital, it was automatic for me.”

Doyle’s design will be featured on the can of a brand new Twisted Trunk brew called “The White Pilz.” The brew was specially crafted for the event on Feb. 18.
